Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit to Calhoun County Criminal History, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use the website, you acknowledge the practices stated in this policy.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Calhoun County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, the message may be kept long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive basic technical information when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and timestamps
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Visited pages and time spent on them
  • The referring website, when one is supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, including popular pages and points where visits end. You may block cookies through your browser settings, although doing so can change how some website functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing faults and resolving technical problems
  • Operating the website and maintaining reliable page loads
  • Routing a query to the selected outside search provider
  • Measuring which resources visitors use and where revisions may help
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Calhoun County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies access routes through the Calhoun County Sheriff, Magistrate and Circuit courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, and the West Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry. Under W. Va. Code §15-2-24(d), dissemination of WVSP criminal identification records to a private requester requires the record subject's written, acknowledged authorization. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into a consumer report or a record about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. We do not control those terms, so review the provider's policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Calhoun County government, West Virginia courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this website, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. Any such tracking is performed through their systems.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:

  • Government or law-enforcement bodies when compelled by a valid legal order
  • Analytics providers that measure website use and performance
  • Outside search providers that process a query you submit
  • Advertising networks that serve ads on the website

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such data, we will remove it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Rights may differ based on the law that applies where you live. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., governs access to records held by public bodies; it does not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Regardless, you may:

  • Request deletion of data associated with you
  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Object to certain forms of processing where applicable

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised. An updated version becomes available on this page and carries a new effective date, so review it periodically for changes in how information is handled.
